Feb. 23 - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is urging all local governments and
coal enterprises to step up their efforts to prevent coal mine accidents.
China's State Council has set up a special coal mine safety monitoring
body administered by General Administration of Work Safety.
It also plans to allocate three billion yuan or more than 360 million US
dollars for technical reforms to key state coal mines to ensure workers'
safety.
Meanwhile at Wednesday's State Council meeting, Liu Guoqiang, vice
governor of northeast China's Liaoning Province was suspended from his
post after 214 people were killed in last week's coal mine gas explosion
in the province.
