Qinghai-Tibet Railway opens to traffic

Passengers have started boarding the first pair of trains that will take
them to a ride across the "roof of the world" later on Saturday.

Tibetans living along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway on June 26. For Tibetans
living along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, its completion and opening to
traffic will not only mean a powerful engine to drive Tibet's economic
development, but also bring about profound social changes and make
Tibetan herdsmen's life more colorful.

GOLMUD/LHASA, July 1 - Passengers have started boarding the first pair of
trains that will take them to a ride across the "roof of the world" later
on Saturday.
The trains rolled out of their stations at around 11:00 am, sources said.

GOLMUD, July 1 - China on Saturday opened the world's most elevated
railway with the first pair of passenger trains traveling across the
"roof of the world".
Two trains set off at Golmud and Lhasa, the two start-up points of the

Relics of Chinese civilization found along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway

later period of the Paleolithic Age, there were ancient human activities
along the Qinghai-Tibet railway line. They found relics of human
activities during this period in the Tuotuo River at the Thanglha
mountain district, Hol Xil and the Small Tsaidam Lake at Tsaidam Basin
and gathered large quantities of manually forged stone products,
including stone kernels, stone knives, choppers, scrapers and spikes.
They estimated that human beings had been living here no later than

Construction of Qinghai-Tibet railway does not destroy local religious
sites

Gansu province, local police ride on horses to patrol in an area that is
3,700 meters above sea level. Their camping ground has only a few simple

operation on July 1. According to Ma Jiantang, deputy governor of Qinghai
Province, five-star sight-seeing trains will run on the railway, with the
fare reaching US$1,000 per day. Such trains will only open to overseas

Oxygen-supply systems equipped on Qinghai-Tibet trains

the Golmud-Lhasa section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway will be put into
