China's retail sales to exceed 6 trillion yuan
www.chinanews.cn 2005-02-01 15:34:32
Zhai Zhihong, director of the Department of Trade and External Economic
Relations Statistics under the National Bureau of Statistics, announced
yesterday in an interview that China's retail sales of general consumer
goods was expected to exceed six trillion yuan (725.5 billion US dollars)
in 2005, a year-on-year increase of about 13%. And it was a conservative
estimate. Given the fact that investment will be restrained and imports
and exports will possibly decrease due to a lower growth rate of the
world economy, consumption will probably become the driving force of
China's economic growth in 2005.
