Chinanews, Beijing, Mar. 10 (By Wang Jinsheng) - Wang Xiaoqing, Mayor of
Qinghai's Xining City and deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC),
stated today that the Qinghai-Tibet railway which originated at Xining
would become the most famous travel hotspot on the Tibetan plateau.
The 1142-km Qinghai-Tibet railway starts westward from Xining to Lhasa.
It is the highest and longest railway in the world and covers the longest
span of frozen land. After four years of arduous work, the basic
infrastructure has been completed. The rail tracks would be laid by the
end of this year and the railway would start trial operation in July,
2007.
According to Wang Xiaoqing, there are numerous world-class natural and
human landscapes along the railroad, which would turn it into a
world-class travel hotspot.
